In general, though, there are two issues with doing a glitter finish: 1. regular glitter just disappears into paint and won't show up as sparkle. 2. techniques to get it to lay on the surface usually involve suspending the glitter in a transparent medium like glaze or polyurethane, or blowing the glitter onto a wet, freshly painted surface. But, without a protective coat, the glitter is also more prone to flaking off.

I bought a large transparent glitter at a craft store. The paint guy at True Value mixed it in for me and when I was painting it was not visible. When it dried it was beautiful, very glittery! I'm very pleased with it!!

Hi Sheila, I am resurfacing my pool deck and want to add glitter also. Was there a particular brand of glitter you used? The glitter I am seeing looks like sugar/salt. Is this correct?

Thank you for your input in advance.

Ok so I added the glitter yo the paint and when I didn't notice it enough on the edging I decided to shake glitter after each painted squared section. Looks amazing. I'll put up a video on YouTube to show the results. Hope it lasts now last a few rains
