My neighbor in Chicago area painted his aluminum siding. He powerwashed it, primed it than painted it. The powerwashing and priming are extremely important. after priming, hw did another wash than final 2 coats with a wash between each coat. He did it in sections, it was a long tedious process, but when I visited back there a few months ago. It looked good from about 5 or 6 years ago. Don't know anything about vinyl. Good luck

I painted my aluminum siding and did as Kay lined out. That was 9 years ago and it still looks great!

I think it is a lot easier to paint aluminum than vinyl. You would have to put something on the vinyl for the paint to adhere to. I believe it would be easily scratched off.

There are new all surface paint products that are easier and better than ever. I did my aluminum siding 22 years ago with a good metal brush on spots of loose paint then pressure wash. It is still fine but the color is begining to fade. I'm getting ready to paint it again. I'm itching to do a mural. It's mine and if I get carried away I may do the picture all around.
