This site talks about buying versus making diy grass paint. http://turfpaint.net/blog/why-buy-lawn-paint-if-you-can-make-your-own-grass-paint/
Years ago it was popular in some areas, then people started Xeriscaping instead to still have an attractive yard yet conserve water.
We have Bermuda grass in our neighborhoods which does well in our hot and humid summers, but it goes dormant and looks dead for 4-5 months in the winter. Lawn care companies spray some of the lawns here, while they are dormant, which kills the weeds that survive the mild winters we have, and also contain a pre-emergent to keep weed seeds from coming up when it starts to warm up. They add a dye to the spray to be able to see where they have sprayed and have not missed any spots. Our grass is not dead, just sleeping.
Havent painted grass but when we trimmed the cedar hedge it left a bunch of dead looking branches showing...UGLY...so I got out the green spray paint and it really made the hedge look better...
Did it kill any portion of the hedge? That was s my big concern.
