Agreed, definitely start with power washing, I would do it on a sunny hot day and wait until the next day before staining
A bleach solution 3 qts. warm water to 1 qt bleach and 1/3 cup powdered laundry detergent should help remove the stains. Use a brush to clean the deck and rinse well.

As others have mentioned, power washing is a good idea. If you don't have a power washer, you can usually rent one at a place like Home Depot. Alternatively, you can get a hose head that turns your regular hose into a power washer, though it is not as powerful as an actual power washer.
A nozzle on the end of your hose could work if you don't have access to a power washer.
Pressure wash and make sure that it is completely dry before new stain is applied.
Powerwash, if you have never done this hire someone who has, you can ruin your deck
Hi Pamela - We did this last year and went old school. It required a lot of elbow grease, but worked really well using a mild detergent, a heavy duty scrub brush, and a pad to kneel on. And by "we project" that was a "me project." Hope this helps! Hugs, Holly
Pressure washing is the best way to clean a deck.

I used ammonia in a bucket of hot water, and a stiff garden palm brush with a long handle.
