How do I paint an insulated outer door with chipped off paint?

You will need to scrape off any loose paint, sand, and clean the door well. Use outdoor paint that is recommended for the material your door is made of - wood or metal.

Sand and repaint. Ask at any paint counter for the correct paint for metal or wood. If it is metal and the metal is showing after sanding you may need to prime first.

Hi! It's easiest to remove a door to make a good job of any repairs and painting. Clean it up first with a good scrubbing. Paint won't adhere properly to a dusty or dirty surface. After a good cleaning, scrape off any chipped or flaking paint. The closer you can get to the surface of the door, the smoother your paint job will be. For example, when I recently redid a steel door, I sanded all the rough spots (and basically the whole thing) before priming with a Rustoleum primer. Then I painted. I used Rustoleum paint, but, if you are working on a wood or fiberglass door, you could use a paint that lists that type of construction. Spray paint, when done in light coats can give you a great finish. You also can use a small roller and brush. Does your door get a lot of impact from sun, rain, etc.? If so, a clear sealer can also be applied. Good luck!

Hello. Agree with above post remove the door off the hinges put it on some sawhorses and address that chipping and removing all flaking and loose paint finish as needed. Completely sand surface smooth. Then clean the door prime and paint.

You want to clean off all the paint until you have a smooth surface. If it is multiple layers you will need to sand it.

First sand off the chipped paint. then prime with a good stain blocking primer. I used Sherwin Williams exterior paint and my door has stayed good for many years

Chip off any thing left that is coming off then get fine sand paper and sand all chipped spots so the edges are smother out then prime door and paint

Just clean or sand the chipped off paint up until you have a smooth surface. And you can paint it.
