I have acquired a used church pew and would like to use it out side

Any ideas on how or what to use for a durable/designer type finish?

My mom and dad had a church pew outside for years - but it was under cover. If you want to keep it out in the weather, you would need to put a sealer on it for the outdoors - and you probably should paint it or stain it for the outside too!! -

Sand it down,clean.stain,allow to dry,and seal with a outdoor wood sealer ,and use it for a focal point in your garden. -

This is a link that goes over making indoor furniture outdoor worthy in general, you may be able to apply this to your pew, also if you don't want to sand, and are okay painting it, I wonder if you could paint with chalk paint (which requires no sanding) and then protect it with outdoor poly like this link suggests:http://www.diynetwork.com/how-to/outdoors/outdoor-spaces/how-to-prep-and-refinish-indoor-furniture-to-use-outside -
