i've not had good luck with paint on concrete...concrete is porous, even with a concrete paint and prep its peeling off. there are are stains for cement. or you can use a clear cement sealer.

If they have never been painted I would extraneously urge you to not paint them. Within a few years you will be doing it again and any future owners will rue the day you put that first coat on them.

Paint brush and Concrete paint. Clean it well first with a brush, remove all moss or algae. Let it dry and paint away.

I used concrete stain, that I had custom tinted at Lowes. I did my whole porch and it was not slick at all like paint can be. I pressured wash steps let dry, used a roller made for rough surfaces and an angled brush to trim.

Dear Kelly-n-Tony I advise you not to paint your cement steps it will make them slick in rain and ice up easier. I would advise you to use concrete stain instead. Just clean them with water and a wheel brush and let them dry then paint on the concrete stain color of your choice and let dry. Stain won't flake or peel like paint. It's thin and splatters easily so use a drop cloth to protect surrounding areas. I think you will be very happy with the results. I used Behr Premium Solid Color Concrete Stain.

NEVER paint concrete! IT PEELS UP!!! I learned the hard way! Use a stain instead.
