Painting a cement floor when it has primer painted on it

I went on-line to research how to paint cement floors. It's an interior room. I pulled up the carpeting and plan to turn it into a yoga/meditation room. So I painted 2 coats of primer and now I am stumped because the stain I purchased didn't work. Guess I should have researched more than I initially did. Now what type of paint can I use - just regular wall paint?

No you have to use paint formulated for cement flooring. I don't understand what you are saying about stain. Did you use stain or the wrong paint?

Is the primer you used made for concrete? If so, whose brand? If not,...which one did you use?

You cannot stain over primer. Primer is an undercoat for another opaque paint. With the primer down, you now have to paint with paint formulated for concrete and seal it with a concrete sealer.

our whole house is on a slab 1800 sq feet, we pulled up the carpet - scraped the concrete - filled in the carpet tack holes with DAP vinyl patch - sanded, vacuumed, washed, vacuumed again. Primed the floors and put down a base coat of grey - over that we sponge painted with a taupe and tan flat paint muting and feathering - where there were cracks we used a feather and craft paint to make marble veining - over the top we used a clear water based floor poly 4 coats - it's been down for 12 years with three dogs, teenagers and I'm still loving it. I steam mop - use mop and glow every once in a while.
  • I have used leftover craft paint mixed together to get preferred color to paint faux bricks on a cement walkway in front of my home, sealed it with cement sealer. Receives all afternoon sun, about4 yrs.old and holding its own. Received many compliments. Also used regular indoor house paint on my cement bedroom floor after ripping up yucky carpet. Loosely stenciled a design and sprayed same sealer over. About same time frame and also doing well. I had researched cement painting prior to doing anything. Cost was way out of my budget. Besides I'm the kind of person that likes to use what I have instead of always buying specialized items. It's worth try to me to reuse and recycle whenever possible. Very happy with both types of paint. Only prep I did was to thoroughly clean cement by washing with Dawn and hosing/moping thoroughly to remove all residual soap. Then let dry prior to starting
