Should I paint my front steps grey?

I'm thinking a light grey paving paint? It has to match my brick and front door. Do you think I should paint it or leave it? We have already guerney washed the concrete.

I think I'd use a 'brick red' as is showing in the bricks and your front door; don't see where grey would complement; or perhaps a very light 'cream'

This was the old door before painting.

No it look awful because it chip and you half to keep repainting.

I agree with the brick red.

Once you paint your steps and porch, you will be painting it FOREVER. Be sure you are ready to repaint them in the not-too-distant future. If you must, paint them brown or cream. That's appears to be an orange in the brick, not brick red.

That is a very personal question with regards to color choices. Personally the contrast you have now looks great, however if that is not the look you want to keep I would opt for a different color.

paint them the color of the grout in your brick.

Like a wheat cream tone? What about the colour of my railing (bushland grey green)?

  • Big lulu Big lulu on Sep 10, 2017

Plant a moss or ground cover to grow over the pebbles. Rocks are useful but cold and uninviting.

The railing could be shiny black to give a nice contrast with the bright blue door.

We just removed all that moss and grass from that area as it looked too unkempt and we added the river rocks to tidy it up and then put potted plants on top for maintenance reasons.

take a scraping of the 'red' brick part that is showing on the actual brick and try to match it -- don't think it would be too 'bright' if it matched what I'm seeing in the picture -- but color in a photograph and in 'real life' may not be the same!

    • Julie Medved Julie Medved on Sep 10, 2017

It's the exact colour of the photo. Do you think it would be too much orange / rust colour or should I do a contrast colour?

  • Chubby58 Chubby58 on Sep 10, 2017

Whatever color your grout is in your brick. I would paint the railing black. I think black railings always look great no matter what. This is just my personal opinion. Do you have any software on your computer where you can download the pic you posted. I did this with my aunts house to show her what her shutters would look like a different color. I think Sherwin Williams or Benjiman Moore have something on their site where you can down load a pic and change the colors. That might give you an idea before you make your decision. Please post a pic when you're done. Would love to see it.

I am with Chubby... black. if you paint the porch you may regret it as someone mention. I have seen it happenšŸ˜ž

It is hard to tell from a picture but it looks like there are too many colors that don't match or blend together. Look at the "pink" trim around the sky light and the yellowish trim around the door/ceiling.

That's why I thought the bright blue door would work. It's a good contrast (not trying to match) and it's a real focal point.

The railing is a nice color but doesn't work with anything else.

Also the trim is white not yellow but due to be painted. Its an old doer upper we just purchased so doing it up bit by bit as we can afford. I really dont want to repaint the door and railing as we just did this. The main thing I am asking is should I or should i not paint the steps and if so what colour?

  • Joan Stanley Joan Stanley on Sep 10, 2017

I like colors that compliment each other. If you paint the steps and landing, I'd go with a deep rust red but with the BEHR DECK OVER. (Also for patios/cement) It has 2 different levels of grain to keep the cement rough to avoid slips. I think the railing should be shiny black and the front door matching the steps or another totally different color to make a "statement".

I understand about the ground cover. Too hard to keep neat and clean.

  • Landsharkinnc Landsharkinnc on Sep 11, 2017

the brick is so spotty I'd opt for at least a darker rust color --but the other comments about having to repaint frequently are on target -- you may just want to live with natural concrete -- unless that it is already painted!

    • Julie Medved Julie Medved on Sep 11, 2017

It's just natural concrete looks a bit unfinished but maybe I should leave it. The brick is ugly but a lot of ppl told me on a previous post not to paint it. Id really like to cover it with a good paint colour, but may be making myself too much work ?!

I like the idea of a brick red!

  • Rachael Bruesch Rachael Bruesch on Sep 11, 2017

I agree with the others, don't use paint. Why not a concrete stain but not gray, choose a color similar to the brick.
