What’s the best paint for a garage floor.

Go to the Lowes website and type in: Garage Floor Paint. They have a slew of great products.

I go with poly-resin based paint, it can be tinted to any color, is long lasting & durable. Normally it is sold only to professional painters, but ask your local paint specialist what they would recommend that is comparable to the poly-resin.

Both Lowes and Home Depot sell epoxy based garage floor kits, containing both resin and hardener, as well as micro gravel to add as you stir to prevent slips in wet, cold conditions. see what the kit says about oil stains before you jump into the project. You may have some prep to do, besides sweeping the floor very thoroughly. this is not paint, you will not roll it out. It is epoxy resin, and based on ambient and floor temps, you will have between 30 and 45 min to work. You will buy an 18" or 24" squeegee and a long handle, and you will mix according to instructions, then pour and PULL the material across the floor with the squeegee. Very similar to top coat sealing an asphalt driveway.

This product is not cheap. It is however, the only concrete floor covering that won't deteriorate, chip, crack and peel in a couple of years.

I agree with Maynard spend a little more and go for the epoxy. You will have to degrease the floor first, good prep ensures a good result. Be sure you read all instructions thoroughly before you begin. I'm not positive about de-greasing, that may be a separate prep step. Good luck.

PS: if the kit comes without grit, buy a bag of play sand, not construction sand- play sand has been run thru a screen to insure uniformity, not so with the kind in bags next to the cement. Sprinkle it into the wet epoxy as you go, not overdoing it, more is not necessarily better. Depending on the size of your garage and how and where you park your car(s) maybe sprinkle more where you will be walking and less where the car will sit. Just a thought.
