What to use on a particle board floor to seal?

Inherited a house----enclosed porch on the front. All that is on the floor is particle board. What can I do with this as far as finishing it off? Paint? Poly? I'm afraid to just let it as is, because of flaking.

I would use an exterior paint for now

I wasn't sure what would be best to sorta "seal" it for now. too many other bills with this house---so looking for a temporary fix until a bit later.

  • Can you post a photo? I am thinking it is not particle board, but if it is, I would seriously consider taking it up, check the insulation below, if any, installing insulation to code, then flooring of your choice appropriate for the area.

If you just need a quick fix, a prime coat or two and then a paint formulated for floors.

    • My pleasure! Go for the quick fix until you get around to a more permanent solution. A few coats of paint and an inexpensive area rug can do wonders for the time being. Enjoy fixing your new home!

You could paint it or add vinyl or porcelain plank flooring. Paint will eventually need to be redone but plank will last.

I agree with Naomie on paint. It's probably a subfloor. I would prime it with a good stain blocking primer the paint with a good floor paint.

Agreed on most likely subfloor. Seal it with floor paint and then cover with some sort of flooring; carpet, linoleum tiles, laminate wood etc.

I would use porch and floor paint,,,, over appropriate primer.

indoor/ outdoor floor paint. You could also buy a good size piece of indoor / outdoor carpet to put down in the main traffic area on porch leading up to the front door. Its fairly cheap at lowes or other home improvement.

No matter what you do seal the particle board after using paint or stain. The particle board will start to come apart and not last. If you put carpet, seal first with several layers of poly.
