Will any paint cover over the red wood color i have on our deck ?

You have to strip the exsisting paint for the deck to come out evenly.

Spent a small fortune on dark brown DECKOVER also 4 years ago. Used 2 coats....started coming loose, following year. In many areas, looks like your pic...only thing I know to do, is sand, and re-do the areas where it's come off!! More work, more MONEY!!

I've heard mixed reviews on the rubber paint and I myself have decided it's not worth the work or money seeing how many people had problems with it. Maybe if they improve on it in the future I'll try it. I think you should power wash the whole deck, let it dry and re-stain it in a darker color that you love. Let that dry completely and then use a waterproof deck sealer. There will always be wear and tear on it because it's actually being walked on, the chairs are being dragged in and out from the table etc. I think if you got a really pretty outdoor area rug for under the table, and perhaps a runner for the constantly taken route you take in another area, it would help enormously and add a beautiful new dimension to your deck. I have found the best sealer to be the one in the link below! Hope this helps! Probably. But I would power wash it first to see what you can scrape off - followed by a sanding (rent a sanding machine - it's def worth the money).

You do need to power wash and remove all the paint before doing anything else.. DON'T USE ANY OF THE DECK OVER PRODUCTS. They crack and peel within one to two years. Trap water, moisture, and wood rots prematurely. Hard to remove. Some people had to replace deck boards even complete decks. There are class action lawsuits against the manufacturers. Notice thay aren't advertised anymore. I have been advising people not to use the products.

I wish I knew that sooner I spent 1/4 of Fortune on it and had to use three coats in order to use it to cover it has lasted now almost a year

I understand that General Finishes gel stain is made to go over stains and comes in multiple colors. Hope this helps

Power wash, scrape if necessary and let dry for a few days. I remember stripping and sanding my mother's deck and it still flaked despite all of the work. Power washing is so much easier. Many gel stains are for interior use only, and generally not for floors. Whatever coating you choose, read the label carefully. Some decks no matter what you do still peel.
