Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® and French designs are the perfect recipe for a shabby chic look. Debbie of My Patch of Blue Sky set out to recreate this trendy style on an old raw silk loveseat, using Chalk Paint® (in Old White and Paris Gray) and our French Floral Damask Stencil. She painted and stenciled directly onto the sofa and quickly transformed it into a shabby chic stunner! Check out How To Upcycle Upholstery with Chalk Paint® for the full tutorial.
Debbie loved how her stenciled and painted sofa turned out so much that she decided to beautify another piece. This time she picked up a $75 consignment store leather club chair that needed a face lift. She grabbed to go-to supplies of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® (in Olive, Country Grey, and Old White) and Royal Design Studio stencils and got to work. After sealing the deal with Annie Sloan Dark Wax, she now has a beautiful leather chair with our Kimono Floral Stencil pattern on the front and back. Check out Stencil DIY: Leather Club Chair Goes Drab to Fab for detailed instructions.
Finding a chair that’s in great condition but not your style can be daunting. But with the help of stenciling, the upholstery can be changed to any color and pattern you want! This chair was in need of some serious style and Debbie gave it just that. She first painted the entire chair with Graphite Chalk Paint®. Then she used Antique Silver Royal Stencil Crème and Feathered Damask Stencil on the front and back. Now time for some shine! She used layers of silver leaf for the seat’s metallic gilding. Lastly, she covered the piece with Annie Sloan Clear Wax to create a patina look that also protected the painted chair from wear. Yes, you CAN use stencils and Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® on vinyl! Carte Blanche Upcycle gave this 1960’s vinyl chair a modern mid-century makeover with our Hollywood Squares Stencil and Aubusson Blue Chalk Paint®. And even more exciting, this stenciled chair was featured in the Spring 2014 issue of East Coast Living Magazine! How’s that for sitting pretty?
Carte Blanche Upcycle does it again! With another modern mid-century vinyl piece, they got to work and turned to their favorite products from Annie Sloan and Royal Design Studio. English Yellow Chalk Paint® was painted over the entire upholstery and our Herringbone Furniture Stencil added some interest to the top cushions. Viola! Upholstery is so easy to update when you have the right tools!
Moroccan style has been hot, hot, hot in home decor for some time now, and Moroccan poufs are especially trendy. They fit the “bohemian chic” style that’s popular right now, and they are SO versatile. Deb of Nomadic Decorator chose a vinyl fabric to use Flat Black Royal Stencil Crème and our Fez Blanket Stencils on. Now she’s ready to sit back and kick up her feet on this trendy stenciled upholstery! Check out DIY Moroccan Décor: Stenciled Moroccan Pouf for the full tutorial.
Deb loves her exotic décor, and we do too! This time, she completed her Indian inspired reading nook with a jewel-colored silk fabric bench cushion. So with the Peacock Fancy Royal Stencil Creme, she stenciled the Rani Paisley Damask Stencil on the top of the seat cushion and the Taj Tile Border Stencil along the cushion edge. Royal Design Studio stencil brushes, with their soft, natural bristles, are the best choice for fabric stenciling as they allow you to easily control the amount of paint and pressure on your brush and achieve a nice clean print on the fabric. MissElaineous Studio gave this French provincial chair a facelift, continuing with the French design theme by stenciling a French poem using our Springtime in Paris Letter Stencil onto the upholstery. French letter stencils are such an easy way to decorate your furniture with the trends du jour!
