This was a huge project! A very old and large dining table desperately needed a makeover. Even I was not aware of the amount of work this undertaking would require to transform it into a charming farmhouse table.
I found a great dining table at the thrift store. It has a heavy, solid wood top and two extension leaves.
It was really beaten up and in bad shape, not to mention missing a few small pieces.
I first needed to remove the old shellac that was a thick cover on the top and leaves. This took many coats of stripper and a TON of elbow grease. It honestly was extremely time consuming. A Hot Mess of a Farmhouse Table
After stripping the table, I sanded it down to a smooth finish and applied a whitewash stain. How to Apply Whitewash Wood Stain
Here is the final product! I added a little darker stain to the extension leaves and like the look. The leaves slide in and out easily. The table is really large and a fantastic find. Well worth the effort that I put in.
The base was painted in a creamy, antique white. The underside of the table was missing its round pegs that adhere the base to the top. I found dowel rods at Home Depot and cut them to size.
I'm thrilled with the result! I'm happy with the natural wood peaking through the whitewash. More on my blog post!
