Yes, I did indeed chalk paint my wingback chair! I called a million upholstery services and the minimum this would have costed with materials and labor was $500 to reupholster!! Absolutely rediculous. So I turned to Pinterest and DIY blogs to figure out what to do. I am too scared to take on my own upholstery so I decided to chalk paint this $30 Craigslist find..
Here is the original chair.. no, the fabric wasn't terrible but it definitely wasn't going to fit the style I was going for in my home.
Of course, I used Annie Sloan chalk paint in Old Ochre with a little bit of water mixed in. There wasn't a particular formula I used, I just made sure that the paint soaked into the fabric instead of laying on top and that is spread easily.
And now for the after!
Isn't she pretty? I also chalk painted the legs in Coco to bring out the detail as they were a beat up stained wood color.

Ste10223733 on Aug 22, 2016Where do you buy the paint? And do you need to use the wax on fabric?

Two Paws Farmhouse | Homesteading on Aug 22, 2016I used Annie Sloan which is only sold at local retailers, you would have to look on the website to find one near you. But Menards sells a dutchboy brand, or you can order bb frosch (a chalkpaint powder) online and mix that into any flat latex paint of your choosing. You do not need to use the wax but can if you want an even smoother finish.

Gail Casterlin Balberchak on Nov 04, 2016I really want to do this to an old pink wing back chair I have before my husband throws it in a dumpster. I do have a few questions, does the chalk paint wear off from sitting on it? Does it leave "chalk dust" on your clothing? And do you need to use some type of sealer after painting?

Two Paws Farmhouse | Homesteading on Nov 04, 2016I sit in this chair all the time to feed my baby. I never sealed it because I'm lazy haha. Never have I had any white on my clothing. I mixed water with it to help it soak in so maybe this is why. I've seen online to seal it with wax but I skipped that. Also because it soaked into the fabric it has never wore off. I sit in this chair ALL the time. It does have a different feeling. More like a pleather now than soft fabric but still very comfy. Hope that helps!
