DIY Phone Docking Station

Transforming a jewelry armoire into the perfect phone docking station with fabric, chalk paint, and a little modifying .

I purchased an inexpensive jewelry armoire and used this as the base for our project.

Using a home interior fabric, we traced the outline of each drawer front with a rotary cutter to cut fabric to size. Each drawer then received a thin layer of Mod Podge, the fabric was applied, and then another layer of Mod Podge went over the top to seal. We repeated this with all the drawers.

I then painted the knobs and trim with a teal chalk paint to match and add a little more cohesiveness to this piece.

Once this dried, we drilled a hole in the back of the two larger bottom drawers for cords, and a cord in the back of the unit that could feed these cords through.

A scrap piece of wood was attached to the bottom to give a flush place for our surge protector and secured with screws.

Once this was all pulled together, we fed our phone charger cords through the back of the drawer, through the back of the unit, and up into the surge protector.

This has become the new command center in our home. The hooks for jewelry make the perfect spot for keys and a rope organizer made a great spot to hang sunglasses.

The top is now where we house gift cards, Fit Bits, watches, wallets, and other odds and ends that seem to get sprinkled all over my kitchen counters!
