See how I turned this dated old table into a fun new geometric piece using General Finishes gray gel stain and General Paints color; Transition for the base. As well I used a white glaze and new mercury glass hardware to make it pop. Check out the step by step process required to change this up at link at the end of the post.Pop over to my blog for more free home decor and furniture tutorials.
Here is the cabinet after the reloving, fresh and fab ready for years of use, don't you think?
Here it is before.. tired, dated and just not feeling loved
General Finishes Gray gel stain to the rescue, thanks General Finishes, another easy to use product in the gel stain line. (Java is my ultimate favorite color)

This photo shows the white washed sides which give a fresh update and gives a hint of a barn board feeling.
Once it was sanded down and stained the top now shows great grain detail and updated mercury glass hardware go well with the whole look.
This piece can be used as a traditional end table but it is the perfect size for small area coffee table as well.
Suggested materials:
  • General finished gel stain
  • Mercury hardware

I am not sure about the striped wood question but whitewash is just like in the old days, white paint mixed with water to thin is brushed or wiped over a color to give it a "wash"
