Easy Chair Revamp

2 Materials
We recently painted a set of chairs for a customer in a 50/50 mix of Old White and Paris Grey. They were BBW (Boring Brown Wood) and screaming for an update. Once painted they definitely looked better, but now they were PGC, Plain Grey Chairs. Especially since the seats were going to be recovered in a plain velvet.
Pretty, but lacking in uniqueness and va-va-voom. So we sat down with the customer and put our thinking hats on.
Enter Efex Mouldings and GIlding Wax.
Normally this bendable moulding goes on Queen Anne legs, but we had a better idea! It fit perfectly on the backs of her chairs. Efex are really easy to apply to any surface, just use contact cement. Brush some on the back of the moulding, and on the surface you’re adhering to, and when the glue is dry to touch, press them together! We finished these with the same grey paint and Classic Gold Gilding Wax.
Oh, and what’s that shiny detail on the top of the chair? Why more Gilding Wax of course! Even if you didn’t want to add a bendable gee-gaw to your chairs, brushing a little Gilding Wax onto the tops of your chairs adds a classy detail.

We absolutely love the way these chairs turned out, what do you think?
