I love flipping furniture. I like taking something that seems to have no value and turning it into a beautiful piece. I found this old chair for free on an online market place and decided to give it a makeover.
This chair's frame is solid oak. Beautiful, right? Sadly, the fabric got lost somewhere in the 1970s. I wanted to rescue it and bring it into the modern age. It was time for a paint job!
The person who had it was an animal lover and it had quite a bit of pet hair attached. First I cleaned and vacuumed the chair thoroughly. Then I taped off all the wood with painter's tape.
Now for color. I had recently got new bedding for my room in a deep navy and I wanted this chair to coordinate. I took one of my pillow shams to Home Depot and had them scan the blue and make me that exact color paint. At home, I mixed my new paint with Delta Ceramcoat Textile Medium. The ratio is usually 2 parts paint to one part Medium, depending on the brand. And then, using a soft paintbrush, I began to paint.
This process took about 3 coats to cover that bright orange. I didn't wait for it to it to dry between coats. Once it dried, I did have to touch up a few areas where little specks of orange still were showing through. I was also amazed that the paint had little to no smell. That was a bonus, since I was doing this in my bedroom.
When I am painting a project I tend to lean toward using exterior paint. To me, it is a tougher paint that can better withstand wear and tear. The paint I got was Glidden Exterior Latex, Flat Matte. I didn't want any shine to the finish.
After it was fairly dry, I put the cushions back on to make sure it looked good and I didn't miss any spots. Then I took the cushions back off and let it dry completely overnight. Please excuse the mess in the background. Like I said, I was in the middle of a bedroom makeover. I tend to make a bigger mess than I started with when I am rearranging my room!
I now have a beautiful chair in my bedroom that is a lovely match to my new decor.

I have a small leather chair. Do you think this would work on leather or any other thoughts. Thanks in advance. PS great job on your chair.
