Hand Painted Side Table

Our third floor bedroom needed a bedside table but there was *barely* room to fit anything much less a working side table. I started the hunt on Craigslist as I often do and was delighted to find this plain old round one. I loved it because it was fairly small in diameter, but it was sturdy AND it had that bonus shelf underneath which is perfect for books, etc. that pile up next to a bed! I double checked for a maker's mark and this was nothing antique or fancy.. the stain is fairly heavy handed and the underlying wood wasn't worth trying to preserve. PAINT to the rescue!!

See how a simple side table got a makeover!

Although not necessary with chalk paint, I gave the table a cleaning and a light sand.

I applied the first coat of Annie Sloan's Antibes Green. You can see it needed a second coat for full coverage, but this is totally personal preference as lots of folks prefer the more rustic look of a single coat.

I measured and penciled off the design and then went back over with some leftover chalkpaint I had on hand. Blues and greens are my favorites!

I only used one coat of the color and then sanded it lightly to give it an aged/ distressed look. Isn't it pretty with the tiniest bit of wood grain showing through?

Eleanor approves. It's not going to her room, but she likes herself a good project.

See how sweet it looks upstairs next to the bed? The color is perfect and it's just the right amount of table surface for that small little corner nook next to the bed.

I love the added little detail of the hand painted top. The pattern was super easy and because it was so small... it didn't take very long to paint in the design. Totally worth it for this small table.
