A little paint can go a long way. Abbey from Painted Home Goods completely transformed this thrift store shelf into a shabby chic beauty with Happy Hour!
I actually hesitated when I saw this vintage tea cup display shelf at the thrift store. I knew a quick coat of paint could easily update it but I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was wrong!
Going for a “shabby chic” look without being too girly, I chose Country Chic Paint’s “Happy Hour” which is a very pale blue. Before painting, I lightly rubbed the spindles with a touch of natural wax.
After two coats of Happy Hour (and remembering how much I hate painting spindles) I lightly distressed with sandpaper. The spots where I had applied natural wax wiped right off, giving an almost chippy distressed look with hardly any effort. This method of wax-resist distressing on details is a new favorite of mine.
Within a day of posting this for sale locally I had a line of people interested! It just goes to show that what seems like a boring thrift store purchase can be totally transformed with just a little paint.
