Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in Old White

1” Royal Stencil Brush

Painter’s tape, measuring tape, pencil, cheesecloth, paper towels, latex gloves

Surface Prep: There is no need to sand or strip, BUT you always want to start with a squeaky clean furniture piece. Clean well with Simple Green or a Soft Scrub type cleanser to remove any grease or gunk on the surface.

Step 1: Use measuring tape and a pencil to mark the center on two sides of your table. Use these marks to center the Furniture Stencil and secure with painter’s tape. For this project we have placed the pattern on the diagonal.

Step 2: Load your stencil brush with Old White Chalk Paint® and offload excess paint onto a paper towel.
Step 3: Stencil your first repeat and then move and reposition your stencil using the “window” registration marks built into the stencil. This makes aligning your next repeat perfectly super easy! Continue stenciling and repositioning until the tabletop is completed.

Stencil Tip: Remember to offload your brush each time you load it with paint. This offloading method is crucial for stenciling crisp, clean designs with no bleed under.
Step 4: Allow the Chalk Paint® to dry for a few hours. If the paint is too fresh, you may end up removing some of it with the waxing layers.

Step 5: Apply a coat of Annie Sloan Clear Soft Wax with cheesecloth. Remove the excess wax with a clean cheesecloth. Allow this coat to dry for a few minutes. Repeat this step with a second coat. Allow to dry.
Step 6: Apply a coat Annie Sloan Dark Wax with cheesecloth. Remove the excess wax and burnish well with a clean cheesecloth. Allow to dry.
Wood never looked so good!! You can use this easy DIY stencil technique on all kinds of stained wood surfaces… such as tabletops, cabinet doors, stair risers, wood beams, and other furniture.
