Nightstand Makeover "take 2"
So if you've seen my previous post, these will look familiar.
I used these for staging, they had chalk paint and looked pretty beat up.
I definitely liked the black, just wanted to add some texture.
First a wipe down, then some light sanding.
I gave it two coats of Behr cabinet paint. I've never used it before, so here's hoping!
For the drawer, I wanted to add some texture so I looked around the house and found some blue wicker type placemats that I know I wasn't going to use as there were only 3.
I made a template out of cardboard so I had the exact size of the inset.
From there, I played around with the placemat to try and come up with some pattern that would work as they were not wide enough to cover the whole piece.
Once cut, I fit them into the drawer to see if it worked.
It looked ok? Maybe it was the color throwing me off so I sprayed the pieces black.
Once dry I dry fit them and added the drawer pull to see the final look.
Not bad.
Yes, I paint in my pj's and slippers
I had to walk away and come back the next day to see if I liked it.
Still not what I was going for. I knew it would be easy to find some placemats more like what I had in my mind so off to Marshalls.
Once back, I found out they were not long enough either so I used two halves as I knew the drawer pull would hide any seams.
Once the fit was right, I glued them down using mod podge. I want them to be easy to remove because, let's face it....I'll probably change them again.
The pulls looked good, but again, I needed them different so I sprayed them gold with spray paint and then finished with a spray finish clear coat.
So shiny!
So, I kind of like them? What do you think? Which insert was better?
They will do for now. Maybe I'm not done. Who knows.
