Stone is heavy you will need to reinforce the frame and swap out the wheels for a heavy duty set. Head over to your local stoneyard and shop the remnant section, where you can find beautiful pieces for literally pennies on the dollar. They will also recommend which construction adhesive is the best for the stone you choose. I did this myself with an off the shelf kitchen cart that I purchased from Cost Plus years ago.
First go to a place that sells stone because often times they have pieces that are left over and will sell at a reasonable price. Take measurements with you and look at showroom at almost any home store and ask them how they do it because they will tell you if they think you are going to purchase from them. Remember that although stone you still have to maintain it by sealing it a fewtimes a year. It can't take beating of wood. Make sure that you understand how delicate it is,often times it stains eadily. It looks pretty, but it's not the wisest if you ask me. If you were the one that beat up the stone then don't expect the same endurance from stone.
measure the sides and cut strips of wood to fit each side and naile them to the height that you want the stone top. Get Quike set Concrete and go by directions. When completely dry remove the stips of wood if you want to or paints them. I hope this will help u.
You could get a "stone" panel and repurpose it as your countertop. Look for it with the paneling and wall boards
I agree with Naomie. Stoneyard would have remnants left over from previous jobs for a song. Some specialty tile shops may also have remnants. Most countertops are secured using 100% silicone sealant. The weight of the stone helps in the gluing. Concrete needs to be reinforced with wire mesh or it will crack.
Countertop stores sell remnants which are basically the leftovers when they cut out someones larger pieces. This would be perfect for you!
