I am looking for ideas to update our entrance door.

The cost to replace the glass is as much as a new door ! The glass is orange. Our house is painted white with grey trims. Windows are white. We considered to paint the door in charcoal but it does not flow with the orange class. Any idea what we can do to make this wood door look great, as we really want to keep it ? Thank you!

Have you thought about painting it red and replacing the handles/knobs with oil rubbed bronze

Get some paint chips and take them home and see what goes with the windows, perhaps in the same family as the wood is now, but darker and a hint of the orange in it.

A few years back, we were in the very same boat so I understand the frustration! We eventually moved so the door stayed as is because the new owners liked it. Have you considered glass paint? There’s a paint for nearly every surface these days and you might be able to paint over the colored areas you dislike.

Beautiful doors. I'd just stain them a darker brown with a mahogany tone to play off the orange glass. You could change the color of the glass with glass stain/paint in your favorite colors.

I get it that you are asking about how to change the glass color - right? Hope someone can answer that question. There are glass paints out there. What was the quote to replace the glass? Just interested.

sounds silly, but black, white and grey glass paint. Alternating ???? I am not very helpful, but it just popped into my head.

I would take the glass out and put wood panels in, and then paint it dark and medium grays, or a black and dark grey would be pretty.

Sarah, where in Canada you are?

While there are paints for glass, I would not recommend painting any door glass due to extreme temperature changes between summer/winter, interior/exterior, or if you live at the west coast, high humidity problems.

The color, style, also the shape at the top of the glass all are very dated. Trying to "disguise" any of these areas might lead to regret and more work trying to backtrack if the job result does not meet with expectations.

I would continue to pursue and price out Sharon's suggestion to replace the glass entirely with wood.

Ahh, I was wondering if it was west coast as the door does not appear to have a double winter storm door. I lived on Vancouver Island for many years, so I know about the dampness, mould, and condensation on glass!

      'Wishing you a green December.

I would stan the glass to a smokey color. The stain would probably have to be a greenish color to neutralize that orange. I’ve never stained glass, but I‘ve made faux stained glass with a mix of clear glue & acrylic paints. Probably not something you want on your entryway. Post pics with your end result!
