I happened upon this cute little Frenchy and thought I would paint it and maybe sell it. What color could I paint it that would make you consider buying it?? The chair came with it but I need to find a little Frenchy chair to make it really nice.

Hi! I just wanted to recommend oil based black gloss paint you can get at lowes. I recently started using it and its awesome. It leaves no brush strokes and will make your desk look elegant and expensive. Also, you don't have to prime it, oil paint sticks to pretty much everything. also change the knobs out to a brushed antique gold color. Good luck!

As much as I don't like 'distressed furniture' this one really calls out for just that. Then I would add a French applique' to the top and a coat of clear poly to seal it.

What about something simple like this?

@Sia@South 47th I forgot to say I have no idea who that photo belongs to in order to give them credit.

  • I'm thinking a grayish blue. And then a little distressing and possibly stencilling.

@Sia@South 47th I really like the pic you attached. I'm wondering what to do about the top since it has undetermined insets and I might not get a nice wooden look. I need to do a little poking around! Somehow, work gets in my way!! I appreciate the help.

@Frankie Laney Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could just work on the things we love!!

Slate grey would be beautiful, or for a brighter option, canary yellow!

I love the top of this desk. It would be a shame to lose the design under new paint. If you paint the desk, I do hope you recreate the design! Maybe paint a French design/logo or use an applique in the center..something like the one I have here in the picture? Please post a photo when you get it all finished!

@This is the design I painted onto the table that my sister now has. I miss this table, but she loved it so, happy birthday Sis??

@Therese C I love the French Country designs and have been pondering that option as well. I guess I just need to "get off the fence" and get on with the project. Thanks so much for all the great input.

The French would use light blues. I would use a off white, then a dry brush applied light blue over it. With the Gold like is on it. I think it would keep it in that French Provincial look...but freshen it.

Use chalk paint. White and Paris grey with silver hardwear. Stencil the top in a French design.
