I too would like to know I have Blonde dressers from my childhood and would love to redo! Is someone out there to answer this question?

There are many ways you can refinish, you can paint, you can stain it. It all depends on what your objective is.

Ok, then you will need to strip or sand off all that black. Years ago I was able to buy some MiMo furniture which is a honey blonde color, it is now in my granddaughter’s room. After sanding I would use the lightest stain possible. I found this article which may be helpful:

Frankly, they work wonderfully in rooms with a Scandanavian decor.

    Think minimalist!

Options are to sand and restain or paint, if you're seeking a farm or more modern appearance.

    Lightly sand and just poly

  • Since the furniture is painted, you can strip it. If that's not an option, then sand off the paint. Check your home improvement store for a wood restorer type of product that can be sealed over with a polyurethane or you can use a stain that matches. Try to avoid an oil based poly as it will yellow over time.

The blond furniture we had was not polyurethaned. It is sometimes shellaced or varnished.

If you poly the natural wood after stripping or sanding, make sure you get a non-yellowing poly.
