How can I antique over mod podge?

Oh so sorry things got ruined and you had to undo it, how frustrating. The make up of the wax mixing with the Mod Podge is surely the issue. The best way to iron this out is to test the products on a scrap piece first. Are you set on using the wax? You might be better served using a different product. Checking with the manufacturers might help you determine what that is based on what your goals are with the project.

You have been through a frustrating diy! My thought would be to apply a clear shellac AFTER decopaging and then applying the wax.......however, as Becky mentioned in her response to you, I'd test any suggestions on a scrap piece before doing an antique or trunk. Good luck & keep on diy-ing!

I did a bit of research and found most people do the decoupage and seal it, then add the wax. Perhaps that will fix your issues.

Yes decoupage and then seal.

After you decoupage use a Scotch Brite pad just to remove any gloss. Then you can wax it. Another option is after decoupage apply the wax. Anywhere the wax doesn't adhere use a brush and dab those with the wax. Try in small area first to experiment.

I really suggest decoupage and just seal it.

The simplest way is to decoupage and then seal it.

If you decoupage over the chalk paint do you have to seal it with wax? This is just a thought but decoupage mediums also come in an antique finish. Check it out online or at your local craft store. Whenever I'm trying anything new I always try a sample first. I hope this helps.
