It's an old heavy mirror to a dresser.

Is the mirror broken or just tarnished with black spots?

If the mirror is really old, the reflective surface if I am not mistaken used to be made of silver hence the tarnishing. I don't know of any way of repairing it unless you purchase new mirror material and have it cut to fit the frame. I am almost positive a glass company can do that for you. You didn't provide a picture so my suggestions are all guesswork. I have a few antique mirrors which tarnish spots and one I use in the bathroom.

Thank you Leslie for your response to my question. The mirror is apart of an antique bedroom set and the mirror is made a very heavy glass. I will check with a local glass company to see how much it would cost to replace it. ☺️

Do you mean a de-silvered mirror or a tarnished frame? Here is some info: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/asktoh/question/0,,1192156,00.html Not that I am suggesting you do this, since it is a bandaid repair, and I wouldn't want you to wreck an antique, but I know my grandmother used to put aluminum foil shiny side in, behind hers...If you go that route, put it over the whole back not in pieces or the tape could de-silver it even more.
