Of course you can paint your d.r. furniture but since it is so close to the l.r. furniture and since that is darker than d.r. furn, a much lighter shade would IMHO be inappropriate. Plus it would be difficult to paint around the rush without getting paint on it and since the rush is layered such paint might be difficult to remove. In other words IMHO it looks better as is than it would painted.
I totally agree with Emily. You have a beautiful DR table. If you have scratches, just get some Old English Scratch cover.
IF you decide to paint, know that the rush CAN be painted as well. I just did a bar stool. Was unsure what to expect but less than a hour later, transformed.

so I painted the rush/rattan with rustoleum country gray chalk paint. Still trying to decide on stain color for table and legs of chairs.
