How do I paint a gold metal coffee table black?

Spray paint! One like Rustoleum that's intended for metal. :)

First use a primer spray paint. Rustoleum makes a good primer. Then Spray with black spray paint. With the primer you are guaranteed it will not chip off.

I painted an outdoor mesh type metal furniture a few years ago and I used to spray paint. I prepped and cleaned the set carefully— sanded it away any loose finish or rust and then used a Rustoleum spray paint —it has always been my favorite choice for professional results.
