How do I prepare furniture before painting?

O would like to paint a dresser, but ad te r u stripped the original finish several years ago, I used polyurethane on it. Must I strip it again , or just sand.it?

  • If you're going to paint, you can sand it to get the sheen off.

    Just sand, oil based primer, 2 coats of oil based paint. Enjoy your freshener up dresser

  • Hi Dottie, We recommend you clean it first really well. Dixie Belle does have an awesome cleaner that will help prep your piece, called white lightning. Once you clean it because you did use polyurethane, I would recommend a light sanding. Then I would just wipe with clean water to get the dust off. Then you can start painting. Dixie Belle Paint is a chalk mineral paint that is super easy to use. You can create all kinds of really fun and unique looks.
