How do I refinish my oak dining table and 6 chairs using chalk paint ?
I have a pedestal round dining table, with a leaf that makes it oval, and 6 chairs that I want to refinish using chalk paint. I have used spray chalk paint for small pieces (I.e. shelves, picture frames). What is the best chalk paint, brush, technique, etc. to use for my table and chairs?

If they are shiny - it is best to lightly sand them before using chalk paint (although not required, it will last longer). I sometimes use Kilz on older wood furniture before chalk paint too. But, chalk paint is designed to just paint on a clean surface and adhere without much prep. 2-3 coats will be required, there are lots of choices out there for chalk paint, some very expensive - but Rustoleum makes a great product in a quart sized can you can buy at any hardware store (limited colors). Paint, lightly sand with a fine sand paper in between dry coats, then seal with a water based polycrylic at the end. I like to use MinWax - satin finish. I use a small standard brush for application. I would suggest sanding down and staining the top of the table with gel stain instead of painting it. That is a popular look now and will be timeless in years to come.

Rob..Annie Sloan is a good chalk paint also Rust-Oleum that also comes in spray. Many antique stores have brands and will have someone available to help you with techniques plus. I would suggest you check one out and see products that they have completed. My daughter has a favorite that she connects with and gets great advice. Good luck!
