  • I did just that for my mom. Hers was approximately 40 years old. I took off an purchased all new pulls and knobs. Lightly sanded and cleaned all of the pieces and then painted with Fusion Mineral Paint. The paint is FABULOUS and it looks like an entirely new set.

I started with separate pieces of furniture that was probably about 100 years old. I got the bed at a church sale and upholstered the headboard. The bureau was in a building my friend owned that had a fire so she gave me the bureau. I painted that the same color as the bedframe. I got a storage cabinet somewhere and painted that the same base color as bed/bureau. I then applied a wood graining effect to the door of that cabinet. For the night table I used an old typewriter stand and made a skirt for it. I made muslin curtains and bordered them is some of the bed fabric. I decoratively painted an old mirror. But this suited the style I like, the wall paper that a friend gave me and of course my budget.

We painted one our daughter's favorite colors making drawers each different color or patterned them for best look. Painted walls in colors to go along. Looked like springtime in the room. Wish we had pictures but never thought to do that then. She loved it all going together at her direction.
