How do you use melamine paint on cupboards?

Do you need to do anything special to previously painted cupboards before applying melamine paint.

  • The first step is taking the hinges, hardware, and doors off. Then, you'll to clean the doors, cabinet frames, and drawer fronts with a degreaser like TSP. Next, you'll lightly sand the wood to give the paint something to grip to. Wipe everything down again. Then, you'll prime the wood. After that dries, you can paint. It'll take 2-3 coats. The paint needs time to cure before putting the cabinet doors back up. Using foam rollers really helps to get a smooth finish. Good luck with your project! It's time consuming but it's so worth it :)

Melamine is plastic and I’m not familiar with a plastic paint. Do you mean paint meant for Melamine?

Any previously painted surface needs to be cleaned and the definition of “cleaning” is going to vary on what else is there. Are there scratches, dents, rips in the melamine? TSP solution may not be enough.

Do you know was the previous paint oil based or water-based?

Hi there. Previous paint is latex and they are OLD cupboards. I just wanted to spruce them up. Perhaps using a high gloss will work for easy cleaning ?
