I am going to paint kitchen cabinets for our new log cabin.

I want a distressed look with a burnt orange tone under white. Someone please tell me what to use to achieve this look. I have never worked with chalk paint before.

Annie Sloan has an orange color you can use with Old White on top. Check out her website! Also the Purple Painted Lady has lots of help, videos and a color mixer feature that is very helpful. Good luck!

My first suggestion is to get a small piece of furniture at a thrift store and finish it in the colors you want. Chalk paint is easy, but you may want to see the outcome before you start the big job of cabinets. You can paint can then wax parts in dark wax and clear wax and to see which looks best. So many techniques with chalk paint I just love it. Good luck and enjoy. Am excited to see what you decide on.

Thank you Marianne, testing is a good idea. My husband is making the cabinets and I would hate to ruin any of his hard work. What is the difference in the look between using a drk wax to a clear wax, just a darker finish?

The dark wax gives more antique finish as it darkens the paint color. I've never used on white before so I'm not sure how that would look, but you try out on scraps of the cabinets which is the same wood, so you'll have the best test. Might borrow paint cause it's pricey.

I did a three drawer chest in a Nepolianic Blue (sp?) and old white (off white) that went beautiful together with clear wax giving it a nice soft finish. The problem I found was it was a little more modern than the rest of the room. I then distressed it and did a dark wax and it deepened the colors making more of a navy blue and the distressing especially on the white paint which came out just beautifully not so stark and gave it some age look. Now I wish I could redo the whole living room around this one small piece that I wanted originally to shove the clutter into :)
