How to paint mesh patio furniture with roller or brush
I want to paint our steel mesh patio table and chairs, but want to use a roller or brush instead of spray paint. What's the best preparation and paint to use?

Use a wire brush to clean off any rust or loose paint and then clean the pieces well. A foam brush will leaves less marks and any paint that is for outside and metal will work. Personally, I'd spray paint it - much easier!

Take off any loose paint with a wire brush, you can also use sand paper or steel wool to smooth rough areas, wipe it down. To paint, use a foam brush to avoid brush marks.
Rust-Oleum quick-drying primer followed by your color choice of Rust-Oleum universal all surface paint. You may need a second or third coat to make your outdoor furniture look like new.

Use an exterior paint for metal if your mesh is metal. The brush or roller will likely take longer than spraying it because you'll need to keep checking for drips and runs because of the mesh. Rustoleum is my go to paint whether spray or canned.
To prep your metal furniture for painting, you will need a wire brush and a range of sandpapers in different levels of grit. Acetone is good for cleaning after you’ve sanded (or you can simply have a bucket of soapy water ready, plus a cloth). Start by giving the furniture a good scrub with the wire brush.
You would need a foam roller and foam brush. Roller to apply the paint. A brush to get into hard to reach areas and to smooth out ant drips/runs. Spray painting is faster, easier, and a smoother finish. Several light coats of spray paint.
Clean it well. Rustoleum makes a brush on protective enamal. You can get it at HD or Lowes or Amazon.
So much easier to spray. Rustoleum makes a spray called 2X that is great for outdoors. Painting mesh will be tough to get in the cracks with a roller.
Spray painting would be a much easier way to get your set painted, but if you just don't want to do that, paint them with a foam brush.
Clean and scrub them well first
Roller use a fluffy one so it will get in all the holes.
Do both sides.
I've done it when I wanted to work around the fabric slings. Honestly, a brush worked best to apply the paint and then use a foam brush to smooth out any lines. Removing the slings took forever to spray paint it, but it was much easier and held up better.
RustOleum is my paint preference. As for prep remove any loose paint and rust with a wire brush then wipe down with denatured alcohol.
You'll need to clean them well, let them dry thoroughly, clean off any bits of peeling paint or rust, priming them is ideal, then use an outdoor paint for metal. You can use a foam roller and brush.
