How to repair damage to a faux wood table that has a stain finish

I spilled nail polish remover on my coffee table that is made of some type of faux wood with a med dark stain finish. I have tried to re-stain the spots that are damaged but the material will not absorb the stain like wood does. Any suggestion on how I can repair the damage?

Have you tried hair spray? I had water marks on a lacquered table & the hairspray took it out or covered it, anyway it's gone & I used hairspray
