How do I update a pyramid dresser?

I have a pyramid dresser it is pretty big. It is read wood, but the front face of the draws are wicker. looking for ideas on how to make it looked antiqued with out making it look bad because of the wicker.

  • You could paint the wicker drawer fronts and then distress them with sandpaper.

    Chalk paint, I recommend Debi’s DIY Paint. Now seriously, stay with me here... Use one of her whites and the color of your choice (maybe Mermaid Tail) and blend. If you practice on the back of the piece (provided it won’t show) or a scrap board to get a feel for how the paint moves (watch a few of her YouTube videos along with Iron Orchid’s and Turquoise Iris’ videos,) in no time you’ll be painting like a pro and have a totally custom piece.

    Wicker distresses pretty easily. What I would do is an undercoat of a dark color, then sand lightly so that the wood grain shows through on the wood parts, whitewash and wipe off the excess, then very lightly sand the wood to get to the bottom color. For the drawer fronts, just lightly sand. Those are actually the easy parts because only the parts that tick up the most are going to get distressed, and if they were really used until they were distressed, that is the parts that would show wear first.
