It should not be difficult, just make sure you use the proper fabric paint and medium. What is the material on the chair?
I have painted several fabric chairs with chalk paint. The trick to keeping it from getting stiff is to use 1/2 paint to 1/2 water. Here is one that I painted last year for my daughter:
Chalk paint. Mist the fabric and paint with a 20% paint/80% water mix for the first coat. Let dry, mist and do a 50/50 coat. Let dry. Last coat is done without diluting. Comes out great!
