I want to paint my kitchen cabinets. What the best method to use?

My husband and I built this house 40 years ago. It seems that everything is starting to need repairs or fresh paint. We are both 70 and it takes longer to get some of these things done.

When I paint cabinets, I find this method to be best: 1) clean (you can use TSP) 2) light sand to remove any uneven flaws because these will show up more after fresh paint 3) primer. I use Kilz. This is the MOST important step for a durable finish 4) paint with a fine nap roller or hvlp sprayer. I recommend using a latex enamel gloss paint for durability. There are more hardeners in gloss and semi-gloss paints. 5) to achieve the final sheen, you will usually need a second light coat of paint.

This is a process, but the end results will be durable and beautiful. Also, watch out for paint runs. If allowed to dry, they will show through the final coat.

Very long process but you will want to make sure to take the cabinet door and hinges down sand and then paint. Don't go with shortcuts on this project. (only from experience log story short I wish I would have)

Also choose a semi gloss paint
