How do I sand a small wooden children’s chair and repaint it?

I would like to sand a small wooden children’s chair and repaint it. Do you have any ideas of how I should do this?! The easier the better! lol

Does your chair already have paint on it Mary? You can buy sanding blocks in different grits. I like to use these for sanding. If you have an electric palm sander--or can borrow one--that will work well too. I usually use a medium grit sandpaper and then switch to a finer grit. The rungs may require a bit of hand sanding with smaller pieces of sandpaper. If you really want an easy way to paint a chair check out Rustoleum Chalked Paint--it does come in a spray paint and gives you a nice matte chalk paint look or you can buy a can and brush it on. It does have to be sealed with the Rustoleum Chalked Clear Sealer--don't use any other kind of clear sealer--trust me! You can find it at Menards, Home Depot, and maybe even WalMart.

Thank you sooo much!! To answer your question, yes it has paint on it! It’s not coated on it thickly do it shouldn’t be too bad to san but I just wanted to clean it up a bit and put a new coat on!! 😊

I would recommend that you sand it before painting. If you would rather skip the sanding, there is a new product on the market. It's called Beyond Paint. It eliminates the need to sand or seal. It costs a lot more than regular paint. I found it on Home Depot's web site. Costs begin at $40 for a quart. Tempting but very pricey. Good luck.

Thank you! I wanted to sand it because it’s been in my garage for about 8 months now 😱 do you have a recommendation on what kind of sand paper to use?! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi Mary. It's Cindy again. Lightly sand it with 600 grit sandpaper. Then paint. Best wishes.
