Chipped kitchen cabinet

Stephanie corley on Aug 24, 2016If you can match the base and glaze color, touch up the base and glaze. Then spray or roll clear gloss over the cabinets so they will hold up and not peel.Helpful Reply

William on Aug 24, 2016It appears the cabinets were not prepped correctly. I agree with Stephanie! Try to match up the base and glaze. Lightly sand the trouble areas. Touch them up.Helpful Reply

CK on Aug 24, 2016Oh dear :-( I agree with both Stephanie and William. But you might just have to bite the bullet and sand (at least enough to remove the peeling paint/glaze), clean, prime and repaint, because it appears that the peeling has gone down all the way to the original finish of wood (maybe I'm not seeing that properly but.....) Do let all us HT readers know how things turn out.Helpful Reply

Susan on Aug 24, 2016I would not waste time or money patching/covering. It will never look right. I learned the hard way!!! Yes the surface was not prepped properly. The entire cabinet is going to go this way. I am sorry for your problem. When we bought our house 28 years ago I thought I could patch. After a lot of work, I ended up having to strip them down as every time I looked at them I could see the patch job.Helpful Reply

B. Enne on Aug 25, 2016Unless you have many patches to do, I'm with Stephanie, but do not invest too much time or money on it. But if you are going to poly over ALL of the cabinets anyway, then sand or clean with liquid sandpaper and steel wool, and prime with a high adhesion primer like B-I-N red label shellac primer and redo.Helpful Reply

Sal10003211 on Aug 26, 2016Since I have 36 cabinet fronts, 12 drawer fronts and a large pantry door, I'm going to try to figure out the base color, lightly sand and see if It will work. I only have small areas on 5 cabinet fronts and 2 drawer fronts. I like the idea of small bottle of acrylic craft paint. Just need an acceptable fix as I'll be selling my house within the year!
