what color are they that you feel the need to change them?
Do not spray paint a pleated shadeit will come out very blotchy. Kirkland’s and Home goods sells nice shades and they are not expensive.
Agree with Dee to not paint.
What about just changing the light bulbs for now, with a new dimmable LED bulb? That is a fast and easy update.
Plug the lamp into a dimmer switch for more variable light in the bedroom.
I just spray painted mine. They turned out great. The previous owner had done it and I never even noticed until I removed them to change lightbulbs on candelabra shades. Never even occurred to me. Just spray light coats drying in between layers until you achieve desired color. I actually sprayed mine Black. No regrets.
You can paint them, but most lampshades are translucent so you would lose that effect. Why not put a decorative border around the top and bottom. You can find lots of different ones - at your local material store.
