Please help me with your ideas...Closet doors are 31.5" wide & 6'6" tall. There is only a 1/8" clearance between them. The wall next to closet is 6" wide on the left and 14" wide on the right. im looking for a budget friendly (under $50) to add a coastal feel to them. All my ideas (including removing doors and adding curtains) have well exceeded my budget. I'm an avid DIYer & looking for ideas. I've way over thought this and hoping someone out there has a budget-friendly simple idea!

Not sure how much of a coastal feel you want. The walls are similar to the color of sand. Minimally, you could go to the Dollar Tree (the only one where everything is a dollar) and look for the summer line of décor. Palm trees and flamingos abound and maybe a fishing net or hula skirt.

You could paint the doors the color of the walls low down, paint in some water and shoreline and the sky and have a big mural.

Bakersfield has 2 Habitat for Humanity Restore's. They only have 3 stars but that doesn't mean you couldn't find some paint to use. People bring in items from remodeling, furniture and appliances. Additionally, look up www.Freecycle.org. This is a community based donation type system. You join ones in your area and see what's posted. If you have something you don't want, you post it and someone or several someone's will say they want it. They do ask that you occasionally offer items yourself and not just take. The things people ask for and actually get is unbelievable-beds, washer, drier, clothes-all at no charge.

Lastly, Craigslist has a free section. I have gotten plants, fencing, gravel-you never know!

Let us know how it turns out!

I like this idea - just paint them white, tape off your design with painter's tape and paint another color on top. Simple and cheap!

If you're going to paint those closet doors and they are just stained, you will need to use a stain-blocking primer like Killz first. It will also make the paint adhear better and be more durable. You could paint wall and doors one color making them disappear. Paint store sometimes have an area at the back where mistakes in coloring are available, and can sometime be re-tinted to a color you like. You could also use fabric and starch to adhear the fabric to the wall, but can be removed later. Find some sheets with a beachy theme you like at a thrift store, or discount store, or online sale.

Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. I found a weathered wood wallpaper in grays, turquoise & tan to cover the doors. I took the doors off to clean & paint them, only to discover the entire backside of one door was missing and full of spider sacs (yikes, I wondered where all the spiders were coming from!) So a temporary fix is matching curtains to my bedding while the doors are fumigated & awaiting a new skin.
