Redo weathered wood

Question

I have a very weathered wooden garden bench.  Want to paint it aqua to brighten up my back yard.  What do I need to do to clean & prepare the wood.  it has no finish on it at all right now.

If your going to paint it, you will simply need to sand it carefully to remove any patina (weathered look) surface on It or any loose past sealers that may have been put on the bench when it was made. If there are cracks and holes in the wood that you want to fill, do so using wood putty at this time. Allow the putty to dry just a bit over night then using a good quality primer prime the entire surface well. Choose the primer that is designed to be used with the paint your choosing. Be sure to take before and after photos and share it with the rest of us!
