The pattern depends on the style or shape of the chair. They sell premade slip covers for chairs on amazon. You will pick out the one that most looks like your chair and work from there.
They range in price from about $20 to $60.

From my experience, keeping any type of cover on a recliner is nearly impossible. You may want to invest in one that has the non slip grip on the back. I think it would be cheaper and less hassle than trying to purchase material for non slip and topside, then make it.
Hello Patty,
Had you thought of buying a New or used Blanket and embellishing it your self with maybe Bones appliqued on? Or maybe an old quilt would do the job! Best wishes. You could always Crochet using all your odd balls or Knit Squares, Patchwork etc.

I know Walmart used to sell them in their pet section. But I would just go buy a twin size blanket or sheet or even a pretty beach towel and use that. In fact I have a twin quilt on my couch now.

You can make an attractive and comfortable cover by using a "throw", either inexpensive or expensive, and attaching it to the recliner with upholstery pins to keep it in place. They are available at most any craft store or on Amazon. They are like a pin with a corkscrew which you turn to keep the fabric in place and have a head similar to a push pin. By using these the throw or material can easily be removed to launder and then reapplied to your recliner.

Sometimes it's easier to use a throw over furniture for pets. They can be easily tossed in the washer and put back on again.
