Use chalk paint on chair with upholstery?
I want a light gray look and the chair is dark brown. I don’t want to mess up the
upholstery so I am worried about bleaching products? HELP!

I would not bleach the wood but use a light colored paint or even chalk paint here is info for you

just cover the upholstery well with heavy plastic and tape or else see if the entire seat can be removed
Cover the chair with heavy plastic, and painters tape. Use cardboard and place it between the upholstery and the wood. Then Paint with whichever paint you choose. I would lightly prime first or lightly sand so the paint has something to grip.
You could chalk paint it and put tape or plastic around the upholstery
