Annie Sloan Chalkpaint and waxes are great. But you can also make your own!

I think "best" really depends on personal preference, budget, how the item gets used (and possible abused) and the original material of the piece of furniture. I have used several commercial chalk paints and made my own, using diff. qualities of paint, and though I love the thickness of some brands of chalk paint (Folk Art comes to mind), I also love the cost of homemade and don't mind putting on an extra coat if I can save money.

My favourite wax is either pure beeswax or a more liquid wax, like Michael's brand, for waxing chair spindles or intricate parts.

I agree, making your own chalk paint is easy, works great and will save you lots of $$

I LOVE Country Chic Paints!! The go on smooth, adhere amazing and the coverage is out of this world - so cost less. Choose the All in One paint, its actually Clay and Mineral Based, but the same finish as Chalk Paint.
