Judy, there are so many things to choose from: you could stain it to match the legs, paint it a favorite color, cover with tile, mirror, pieces of broken tile, add a country look finish such as pallet wood. I'm sure there are many more ways I haven't even thought of. You will get more ideas, just have fun with it.
Are you wanting to restain it? If so, it's pretty easy. Sand ti down completely starting with 80 grit sandpaper and working your way up to 220 for a smooth finish. Then clean it well and apply your stain. Stain conditioner helps the stain go on smoother. Wipe away the excess stain. I have a clawfoot oak table that I'd like to either refinish in a darker color or paint part of it and keep the top wood grain. Anyone have any creative ideas?
